I'm having a hard time figuring out why this book isn't more popular, and why I'm not hearing about it all over the place. I mean, obviously I heard about it at one point, or I wouldn't have added it to my tbr list, but I think it should definitely be more well known. It's really good.
I have read a few reviews that call it a copy of Harry Potter. While I honestly think it's just about as good as Harry Potter, I wouldn't call it a copy at all. Yes, there are some similarities. But that's true of just about all books nowadays. There really is nothing new under the sun. There are bound to be similar elements in books, especially if you read a lot, and more especially if you're looking for them.
I think this book stands on its own, and is a fantastic addition to its genre. The setting was really fun and memorable. I loved the main character, and there were a lot of side characters to like as well. The plot moves at a great pace, and was never slow or boring. I would definitely recommend this book.

I couldn't even enjoy this in a so-bad-it's-good way, and I'm very disappointed.
Had quite some fun with the audiobook. The story was not aimed at my age range but I still liked it.

Dealing with my own stuff at the time when I read this, I cried so much reading this
This book was AMAZING!!! I’ve been wanting to read it for years now but I never had a good opportunity to get the books. Well, when given a gift card, I decided that it was finally time, and I got the first three books in the series. All I have to say is wow, that was a great decision! While it’s very different in a lot of ways, this gave me the same sense of awe that I got from Harry Potter which to be clear, is just about the biggest compliment I can give to a book. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
This may have been a reread but it was so dang good. I have read this book at least 10 times no exaggeration . I was first recommended this book in 5th grade and read it. After Harry Potter, this was the first series that got me into reading and I thank Shannon Messenger for that. I really connected with the characters and the setting. I will never stop recommending this series to others. I got my cousin into it and we both are obsessed together.
