4.1 AVERAGE

The thing I love about John Connolly books is that at no point are you ever bored with the story, its never a plod, a mosey or a saunter neither is it a sprint, run or gallop to the end. A Game of Ghosts has an array of unsavory characters from Mother and Phillip to The Cousin. This is the first case where Charlie has been specially requested by Ross to undertake. He knows that Ross isn't telling him the full story but if you want help from the FBI then they'll be expecting Quid Pro Quo. Taking the case also keeps Charlie's mind from dwelling to often on the situation with Rachel and Sam, trusting Moxie to solve the problem. Not only is Charlie dealing with a personal issue it seems that Angel is too and it looks that life is going to be a little difficult for Louis and Angel soon.

A Game of Ghosts is very much in the supernatural realm and the story is good but for me it is the personal the clinches my interest in the book, another winner for Connolly.

Oooooooo. A war of spirits and ghosts! Kind of. It’s complicated. Evil cults, fallen angels, and a mixed coterie of innocent and damned bystanders are caught up in a dark plot of murdering any witnesses to a pact.

Edgar Ross, a strange FBI agent, assigns Parker to find a missing private detective, Jaycob Ekland. Ekland was researching mysterious disappearances of people apparently unconnected to each other, except that each person mentioned being haunted. Parker knows something else is happening besides what Ross has told him about Ekland, but Ross refuses to tell him.

Parker does not trust Ross, but he trusts his friends Louis and Angel with his life. Ross does not like the two ex-criminals, but if he wants Parker’s help to locate Ekland, he has to accept Parker's terms in requiring them to work the case too.

Meanwhile, Rachel, Parker's ex-girlfriend and mother of their beloved daughter Sam, wants to restrict Parker’s visitation rights. She thinks Parker could get Sam killed because of his work and the terrible enemies Parker has made. Rachel isn’t wrong, but Sam has secrets which involve her father about which Rachel knows nothing.

This is number fifteen in the paranormal detective Charlie Parker series, so, gentle reader, do not read this novel until you have read the previous fourteen books. This series absolutely must be read in order, starting here: [b:Every Dead Thing|175242|Every Dead Thing (Charlie Parker, #1)|John Connolly|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1393929687s/175242.jpg|890720]. Lots of threads from the previous books are snipped, while new ones begin - typical of this series. But it feels like maybe things may be concluding soon.

This one took me a bit longer to really get into but at the end of the day it's A Charlie Parker Thriller, so I ended up enjoying it!

John Connolly is currently one of the best writers, and the Charlie Parker novels one of the best series, in any genre. In what genre these books sit is debatable; they are thrillers, detective stories, mysteries, horror stories. What is not debatable is that Connolly writes poetic, lyrical, haunting prose and dialogue which compares favourably with Raymond Chandler, Ross MacDonald or Elmore Leonard.

If you know these books, you know just how rewarding, if disturbing, an experience each addition to the series is. If you don't, then put down what you're reading and pick up 'Every Dead Thing', the first Parker novel.

'A Game of Ghosts' is the 15th in the Parker series. It is not a jumping on point. The books really need to be read in order and to do so is one of the most intense and satisfying journeys in modern fiction.

It's a slow start but once it gets going,  it's amazing.   The most supernatural of his books so far but it answers a lot of questions you might have had.   Must read

Loved it. One of the best Charlie Parker stories. Though it makes it seem like the series may be coming to an end. :-(

Another excellent addition to the Charlie Parker series!

The stakes keep getting bigger and just when I think that John Connolly can't keep up this level of writing and excellent plots, he hits me over the head again.

The Game of Ghosts takes the series in some new directions with our characters while closing out some plot themes from past books.
I'm really happy that I'm buddy reading this series with some friends on Goodreads. It's been so much fun to get their ideas about where this series is going.

It's great storytelling and I'm excited for the next book in the series!

Ok. Banyak yang terjadi di buku ini dan semua bikin gregetan dan penasaran.

Banyak cerita tentang Sam.
Ada cerita dan perkembangan baru tentang Rachel.
Kejadian yang mengejutkan mengenai The Collector.
Kisah yang aku khawatirkan terjadi kepada Louis dan Angel.

Tidaaaaak...
Aku penasaran banget.
Pengen baca The Woman in The Woods.

Tapi, tapi, setelah itu harus menunggu lagi 😢😢
