The plot isn’t exactly the most… enthralling thing ever, I’ll admit. It’s a pretty typical story of a woman subverting gender roles, as she’s focused on writing whatever comes to her mind. But I’m the kind of person who doesn’t necessarily read for plot, I focus a lot on what kind of things the words make me feel, and there were several little bits in it that really made me think about things when it came to writing and art. A brief and good read, I left it feeling pretty happy.

I had mixed feelings about this book, which came highly recommended. While the writing was poetic and descriptive, I felt let down by the characters. The story felt disjointed, like a collection of scenes from different movies stitched together. I struggled to connect with the main character, who lacked depth and didn't give me much to like her for. I did enjoy her descriptive passages, but being in her head was a challenge. Ironically, I found the supporting characters, like Dana and Anthoniette, more compelling, even her husband! Unfortunately, the main character felt unfinished and odd. Overall, this book was a one-time read for me, and I'm glad I borrowed it instead of buying it. While I appreciated certain aspects, it wasn't my cup of tea.
