Wishing Day

Lauren Myracle

3.23 AVERAGE

It was okay but there was this problem that it lacked any plot. Also most characters were infuriating.

This book was great! The ending was a total cliffhanger and I found out that Lauren Myracle came out with a second book about the middle sister, Darya. I am also hoping she will write another book about the youngest sister, Ava, and make this a trilogy. The story was a little hard to follow because there were so many different things happening at once. This book reminds me of the Willow Falls series by Wendy Mass. Although I enjoyed the Willow Falls series more than this book I would still give Wishing Day a try if I were you. Natasha, the main character has so many pieces of here life confused and missing like her mother, you can't help but feel her pain. This is one of the many books I have read by this author and I am looking forward to reading the sequel and hopefully ( if it comes out ) a third book.

I love this book sosososo much read it!!!!!

WHAT WAS THAT ENDING? WHAT. WAS. THAT. ENDING?!? IT WAS NARRATIVELY BUILDING TOWARDS A PLACE OF CLOSURE AND THEN IT ANSWERED NOOOOTHHHHINNNNNNNG AND MADE WHAT HAD APPEARED TO BE CLEAR MURKY!

Beautiful prose and character writing and the audiobook narrator was incredible.

I AM NEVER READING ANYTHING DESCRIBED AS MAGICAL REALISM AGAIN.

I found the first part of this book a bit confusing, and it almost seemed over-my-head. Then I reminded myself that it's written for kids in elementary & middle school and I dug in to tackle it. About half way through it begins to pick up pace and finally come together in a cohesive story. And, when I was then fully entranced, it ended abruptly! I have so many unanswered questions, but I'm not sure that I'll want to take on a book #2.

Plot was slow, ending was unsatisfying. A lot of things were left unanswered.

Review to follow soon...

More like 3.5 stars

It is Natasha's Wishing Day and she is overwhelmed with the choices. She has to choose one wish that is impossible (should she wish for her mother to come back?), one wish that she can make come true (a kiss?), and one that is the deepest wish of her secret heart (???). The oldest of three sisters whose mother disappeared eight years before, they are being raised by their very different aunts. Aunt Vera is down to earth and thinks the magic is a waste of time while Aunt Elena is a firm believer in the magic that runs through their family and their town. The consequences of Natasha's wishes are mixed into the day-to-day trials of being in middle school, plus she keeps running into the very odd Bird Lady who gives her cryptic messages. As Natasha tries to untangle her mess, she starts to see clues pointing towards her mother's disappearance. Can she figure it out and find out what happened to her mother? The first in a new series. Fans of Wendy Mass's Willow Falls book will enjoy this. Recommended for grades 4 & up.

️⭐️⭐️ = It was ok, but I wouldn't read the rest of the series.

The concept of wishing day was really cool! I think it would be cool to have a wishing day, except that I'm 14 so I missed my chance. Magic has always entranced me and I can tell you right now that anything magical gets my attention. So a book about wishing by an author that has made me laugh several times in other books was an automatic yes.

As for the actual story, Lauren Myracle has done better. Mia's sisters were cute and I really liked their relationship. The wishing part was also fun but nothing else stuck with me. I don't like weird old ladies, embarrassment, or romance (especially not 13 yr olds because they are little babies not ready for dating). The story wasn't remarkable and it was chock full of tropes. In conclusion I'm not a huge fan of the story overall.
