There has got to be another book after this one. More action and adventure, danger and the uncovering of ugly secrets. This story just keeps getting better, totally a page turner!

This book was typical of the genre. The dramatic reveal at the end was no surprise because I had figured it out rather early in the book. My library has the second book in the series and I'll eventually read it because as I said before, it was better than a stick to the eye!

I found this book completely captivating. I think it was the alien - zombie creatures that really held my interest for the most part. I've read about alien invasions and zombie outbreaks, but a combo? It left me hyped up like a kid on cotton candy and mountain dew. This book begins as the blood and gore hit the streets, leaving Amy alone. And I was instantly involved in Amy's survival. Often I read reviews before writing my own, I like looking over other's ideas and opinions about the material before I start my own rant. No need in repetitive reviews, right? I see some reviewers criticizing Amy's survival behavior and negatively rating the book because it didn't gel with reality. My objection to those types of reviews is that this is Fiction. FICTION. And it's Science Fiction at that. I suppose I could see pointing out things being unrealistic in historical fiction for instance, but not science fiction. So yes, Amy acted quiet stupidly for a girl with over obsessive parents. She survived even though she made really, really bad decisions. This wasn't an issue for me at all. Also, when I'm reading post-apocalyptic reads, I don't look for a lot of character development. I mean I think the ultimate goal is just surviving to eat the next meal. If a series goes on for a long period of time without depth or growth then yes, I can see my attention turning from the repetitive nature of survival. So for the most part this book made me very happy. I enjoyed watching Amy try to survive. I enjoyed that she was brazen enough to ask questions. And I look forward to book two. The twist in the book didn't really shock me. And my only disappointment in the book was the fact she stayed in the Ward for as long as she did without ANYONE rising up. But I suppose in the end things ended the way they needed to.

I was looking forward to this book since last year. The blurb sounded awesome, and well.. let's just say if I had to rate the 3 parts this book contains it would be the following:

Part 1:
***** stars.

Part 2:
** stars

Part 3:
* star.

As you can see.. It started awesome, and it ended up in pure boringness.

I loved the beginning, we have our kick-ass main lead girl Amy, who is home alone, but while she is watching tv she sees the news. The horrible news of men-eating aliens. In a matter of days, the whole world is gone, most people are dead. She stick to the house, and only ventures out after a few days. Back then she didn't know what to expect, but I loved her, how she, regardless of scary men-eating monsters went outside. Ok it utterly failed, but she learned a lesson.

The first part focuses on Amy and later on Baby (the toddler she found), on how they survive, how they try to get by in a world destroyed. Eventually things happen and they have to run away from their safe haven.

In part 2 we get to the New Hope city, a city with survivors, and also a surprise person
SpoilerI kind of suspected it, but it was still a surprise to see Amy's mom, still alive, and one of the leaders.
In part two we also have cursive parts, mentioning Amy as being in a hospital. I found that to be really confusing, I had no clue what was going on anymore.

I loved the plot twist that happened in the book though.
SpoilerThat in fact, the aliens are not aliens. But a government project gone wrong. People change (when bitten, but also at a time, through the air) in green, hungry, men-eating monsters. Call it zombies, call it something else, it was a great twist though.

I loved the characters, but I had hoped for more of Part 1, more survival, more living with countless scary critters. Instead, I got a bit survival, and after that a whole lot of confusion and boredom.

I am not going to read book 2.

Kept My Attention

Not a bad story but some of the scenes appeared rushed and could have been provided with more detail. Looking forward to the next in the series.

When I say I was in a serious reading slump, I mean it was a struggle to find anything that held my interest. Countless unfinished books littered my nightstand until I stumbled upon this gem at the bookstore. From the very start, it captivated me like nothing else had in ages.

I particularly appreciated how the book was divided into three distinct parts, each adding its own layer to the story. However, despite my enjoyment, I couldn't bring myself to love it wholeheartedly, hence the three-star rating.

One aspect that left me wanting more was the exploration of the time before Amy and Baby were taken to New Hope. I found myself yearning for deeper insights into their lives prior to their upheaval, although I suspect I might have grown bored if the story delved too deeply into that period.

Nevertheless, I'm intrigued to see where the next book in this duology will take us, and I eagerly anticipate diving back into this intriguing world.

This book series is incredibly dear to my heart. This was about the fourth or fifth time I’ve reread the book. I highly recommend the audio book it’s narrated by one of my favs.

This book holds up. I first read it in middle school and found it again later as an adult. If you liked the hunger games, the last of us (the show or game), myster thrillers, and smart but anti-authority main characters this is for you.

The world building is so thoughtful and intriguing also the other characters feel well throughout and real.

I don’t say this often but the second book is even better than the first! Read this book already!!

After a very promising first third, this one took a nosedive straight into cliche territory and never left. Rather disappointing, especially since I called it about 50% in.

Started as a good book, but then lost itself.
