In questo libro non sono molti i personaggi che riescono a salvarsi da se stessi. È curioso come si possano ridurre fondalmente a tre, tutti uomini, e, considerata con una chiave di lettura diversa, anche la narratrice-protagonista.
Io lo definirei un romanzo di debolezze, dove le personalità più intime dei protagonisti vengono messe a nudo senza tanti giri di parole, con una scrittura secca ed essenziale che è propria dell'autrice, il cui stile da critico letterario emerge già dai primi capitoli.
Un bel romanzo, una (nuova) bella scoperta. Un bel personaggio, Rikard Blom, che in questo libro rimarrà il mio preferito.

Ugh.
I don't even know where to start. No real storyline, undeveloped characters, meandering narrative that flips between fiction and fantasy (boyfriend turns into fish when his cowboy boots are taken off) and the ending? was that the end or did the author just get tired of writing?
You know those books that you get assigned at your book club and then no one wants to speak up and feel stupid because they didn't get it? Yeah, that would be me. And the other people attending.

Three generations of Norwegian women. Great writing style, tells story with much exaggeration. Reminds me of how you remember memories.

Aika omituinen kirja omituisista perhesuhteista, mutta kokonaisuudessaan pidin tästä. Herkullisin hahmo oli ilkeä Selma-täti, joka muisti haukkua kaikki läheisensä - tutut ja tuntemattomatkin - vielä juuri ennen kuolemaansa. Tämä oli taas niitä kirjoja, joista ihan kaikkea ei ymmärtänyt, muttei varmaan ollut tarkoituskaan. Jotain kiehtovaa tässä lukukokemuksessa oli. Avoimeksi jääneestä loppukohtauksesta en pitänyt, se oli suorastaan ahdistava.

A regény nőkről szól, egymáshoz fűződő kapcsolatukról, anya-lánya viszonyról, testvérekről, házasságról, barátságról. Őrült egy család, különleges környezet és látásmód. Olyan Skandináv az egész (legalábbis az ember lánya valahogy kénytelen volt Bergman filmekre gondolni közben). Számomra a legjobban megírt részek talán azok, mikor Karin nővére fiára vigyáz és együtt várják, hogy a külföldre utazott szülők, akik próbálják megmenteni a házasságukat telefonáljanak. Aztán volt olyan rész is, amit úgy éreztem, befejezetlen és lebegő maradt, mintha valaki a nyomdában vagy a fordításnál kettőt lapozott volna véletlenül…
Fura, hogy nem számítottam arra, különösebben tetszeni fog, magával ragad majd a regény, mégis ez történt. Azt hiszem kicsit több skandináv irodalmat kéne olvasni. De mindig a Peer Gynt jut eszembe és hogy mennyire zord arra a vidék és attól tartok nekem túl drámai és lelombozó lenne bármi onnan Északról.

Randomly pulled this one from the library. I liked the surreal storytelling that was used...it was interesting to pull apart Karin's truths and lies. The ending threw me a bit though...I guess it was difficult for me to see the connection between it and the rest of the novel's events.
