I'm not gonna sit here and pretend that I loved this serie and that it changed my life but I did really enjoy it and it's all thanks to the characters. I don't know what it is with me but I seem to always get very attached to the protagonists of a book I read. In this case in particular, they had the power to make me keep reading the entire serie and ignore the only problem I had with it: the story was sooo unnecessarily long! I understand that a plot has to be developed but it should also have limit. In some occasions, though, I thought it was getting out of hand and some pieces could have been omitted without compromising the story.

A solid fantasy read!! It was just what I needed to launch me into my own summer reading.

SPOILERS BELOW

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I have mixed feelings. I really am wavering between 3 and 4 stars.

VE Schwab wrote a series that wrapped up nicely at the end and held my attention for an entire month. Each character was unique and I loved them all, each POV was as interesting as the next. The magic was fascinating (although I would like to know how the heck Holland knew so much about it while Kell who had a teacher did not) and the dialog was authentic.

All that to say, where is my backstory?!! I still have some questions about who these people are, and what is motivating them. I feel like I met the characters when they met one another, not as if I was living in their heads. I understand why Kell burned the paper but also no, I don't. I want to know!

Also, after reading this I do feel like I should move to London - magical or not.
