malo to svoje plusy - minusy.

If you liked Gone Girl, you should give this one a try. Psychological thriller with an evil female lead character. Definitely a page turner and a book that throws curve balls at you. Some of these I figured out and expected but others I didn't. This type of book is not usually my favorite, but this one is well done and will keep you engaged. 3.5 stars
Meh. There are a lot of tropes here that already seem tired. I'll see the movie for the cast though.
You’d be amazed by what people will do. Things they’d never admit to anyone- not even themselves.
I honestly thought I was going to at least enjoy this because the movie trailer was interesting but I was wrong.
To start, I. hated. every. single. character. There were children in the story but I honestly didn't even care about them. I didn't hate the kids but I also didn't like them. The book was longer than it should have been but it could've been a few pages shorter and still would've sucked. Before my faith in this book sunk, I thought it would've at least been a 3 star because Emily was the only thing I was sorta enjoying. All of the main characters are annoying and just suck overall.
If there's one thing I love, it's cunning and scamming female character but while that's what Emily was supposed to be, it wasn't done well enough. Emily isn't cunning or a scammer, she's pure evil. Honestly, I would've enjoyed what she was doing had she not had a child. It feels like she wants to act like a fucking child herself. she really wanted to commit insurance fraud because she was bored and wanted a thrill?? Girl if you don't put your child first- I loved Emily's point of views when it was first introduced but she just ended up giving me headaches.
You know who else gave me headaches? Stephanie. I think she's the character that the reader should root for but I hated her so so much. I did enjoy her blog entries that her pov was mostly taken place in but that was about it. She always goes on and on about her dead husband and at first, I felt for her, except when it was revealed she cheated throughout the better half of their marriage. She was just talking about him out of guilt. With who? Her goddamn half-brother. I could've done without the incest plotline and Stephanie trying to justify that. and the fact that her son is her half-brother's and not her husband's? Disgusting She's also so naive that I thought it was a joke. After EVERYTHING that had happened with Emily and her lies, Stephanie still believes her bullshit story about the husband blindly. Didn't even question anything! Such a useless character.
And Sean? The blandest character I've ever read. The perfect word to describe him would be gullible. He knew who and how his wife really was but he was head over heels in lust with her that he didn't even care how horrible she was. He was just pathetic.
That ending was the stupidest thing I've ever read.

Predictable as a Lifetime movie, with one note characters
Normally I can find a redeeming quality in any book I read- not in this one. Every “twist” was trite and predictable, and the characters are all one note, and unfortunately every single one of those notes is awful. Stephanie truly is the dumbest character ever, Emily is a caricature of a psychopath, and Sean is just worthless. I really wanted to like this because I’m excited for the movie (due to the cast) but hope they change it from the source material drastically!

I read this book so I could watch the movie. Noir is a genre that I prefer on film; the characters are generally so unlikable that spending a couple hundred pages with them is usually exhausting and disheartening, while on film the sameish characters are entertaining and engaging. The same proves true with this title. I had little sympathy for or engagement with the book's characters, the film, which was very different from the novel, was a fun Saturday night and a lot more interesting.
So. I really liked the film – it's certainly cinematic. However, the book fell flat for me. Maybe because I saw the film first? [SPOILERS] Maybe because I wanted Stephanie to outsmart them all in the end? It feels vaguely sexist that he stay-at-home mom is the naive one. Maybe because I was hoping for some unreliable narration? Probably all of this.

This book was fine. It was entertaining, but predictable. Not very impressed.
