It took me foreeeeeeever to read this book, partly because college is a thing, and partly because I struggled to get into it near the beginning. Though I never got to see the relationship between the two main characters develop as much as I wanted, this book ended up being a really fascinating study of human nature. The premise is very unique, the plot twists come out of nowhere, and the story actually moved fairly quickly.
My main issue was probably the writing. I kept feeling like I was being told stuff without it ever being shown. The relationship between Rowan and Citra, for example, was described to be deep, but most of it happened off-page. All of their interactions that actually happened seemed very shallow and lacking in chemistry for me. I was missing an essence of charm from all of the characters, now that I think about it. There’s no one I can think of that I’m absolutely in love with.
Despite this, I can definitely see why there’s so much hype over this book and I can totally agree that it’s well-founded.

This book had a great concept that wasn’t executed well. The writing style was always teetering on the edge of what I like to call “YA insanity” (because it makes me go insane). It was a quick read for me but I wouldn’t do it again. 😜✌🏾

Scythe was a very well written, engaging and a very realistic science fiction story.
I loved the idea of Cloud evolving into Thunderhead. People have a solution to all the problems, including death and what do they decide to do? Slack off! You got that right. The idea that humans have all the knowledge in the world and yet do nothing with it because they also have all the time in the world, was very realistic. Procrastination at its best.
I really enjoyed reading the journal entries for the Scythes. The little twists and turns throughout were well planned and not something I was able to guess.
The ending was even better. It wasn't just a way to circumvent the laws but it also proved to be a way for Citra and Rowan to help each other. Very smart.
The romance was not overpowering, barely there and never let the characters make stupid decisions because of it. I really enjoyed this book.
