One of my favorite favorite books. If you are a fan of the Hunger Games, then you need to read this one!

"The ending of human life used to be in the hands of nature. But we stole it. We are its sole distributor."

Scythe is a YA dystopian in a world that has solved all diseases and illnesses. Nobody dies-- essentially everyone has immortality and so to combat population overgrowth there are scythes (professional reapers) that 'glean' (kill) people. Scythes all have different methods of how they choose to glean and who they glean. Citra and Rowan are chosen to become a scythe's apprentices and train to become one themselves.

This book has so many great messages on morality, mortality, sense of purpose, compassion, AI, the list goes on. Its themes are insightful and thought-provoking.

"Hope in the shadow of fear is the world's most powerful motivator."

Plz read and report back to me, I am obsessed with this whole series!

I thoroughly enjoyed this read! Following the stories of Rowan and Citra had me on the edge of my seat! I also enjoyed the world Shusterman created. It really brought to mind the importance of death and how a Scythe should act. Overall, this is a solid Sci-fi book for all ages!

I gave this a 20% try for a book club. I am totally uninterested in YA dystopian novels so it wasn’t for me but I could tell it was well written and would be really engaging for the right reader so if this genre is your jam you’ll probably really like it.

Absolutely fantastic read! Shusterman builds a fantastic world that feels very much alive and expansive, full of interesting characters and a challenging view of morality. This book takes a hard look at finding meaning in the meaningless, and the realities of a life without stakes and what that would look like. Compulsively readable and a series I will definitely finish. I do love that the ending of the story doesn’t leave a cliffhanger but rather a more expanded version of the same world, a very satisfying conclusion.

Respectfully, I do not read science or dystopian fiction at all. But this was great. I loved the plot and the storyline, and Neal Shusterman delivered it well. I really could feel the tension while reading it and Rown and Citra were so different yet alike in the best way possible. The storyline got confusing at times which is why it's not a 5 star read. I couldn't understand their motives to do the specific things they did in the book, but maybe it's because I read it too fast. Anyway, go read it. Give it a try. I took a leap of faith to decide to read a science fiction book, but it was worth it. Seriously, go give this book a chance.
