At this point I think I need to listen to the last one to find out what happens, but this installment was just ok.

This is what I hate about series, because I can't review this book because I jumped and read the 3rd book. Series all combine into 1 story for me. I do remember we get a better idea of the rules, and and an almost Triangle, but not really.

I really loved this series. It is fantastic. It was deliciously wicked and dark and loved every moment of it. I do not know why I did not start this series sooner. I loved all the characters. I cannot wait for Sovereign.

At the end of book one, when Stella chose Lucius, it set in motion a chain of events. Where does Lucius take Stella? What happens after she spends a day in the pool and goes back to her room? What scares her the most that day? When the time finally comes for the Christmas time Trial, where do they go? What is supposed to happen for the trial? Who gets to Stella first? What happens? When they finally leave the grounds, what does Stella say to Cal? What do Lucius and Sinclair have in the works? Who helps Stella? One night, Stella hears music and heads out to investigate it and finds Sinclair, Lucius, and Teddy playing together in the music room. What happens as their music playing time is winding down? On Christmas Day, what surprise is in store for Stella? It really made me smile when I read that scene. I agree with Stella, that Sinclair is lying about something, to her and to himself. His bedroom is clear proof of that. You're going to have to read this to find out what happens after Stella sneaks up to the 3rd floor one night to get answers to questions. Now why Sinclair says he has to win makes perfect sense!

The adult hunger games
I know I said this in my last review but it's the best was to describe this story is the hunger games of the rich and powerful. I am also listening to the narration along with the story and the narration is great however the female narrator during some of the smut parts has this strange shake to it that makes me cringe. Stephen Dexters's performance is flawless.

Continued amazing writing and a very intriguing story, but also so much more darkness. There are a few moments of light, but it is almost as if they are there to allow you to take a breath before the next heart wrenching scene.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley.
Second book in the series and yes it does have me hooked. I mean what more can they throw at that poor girl?
Stella has fallen in love with the devil. She seems to have everyone falling in love with her. And she is finally starting to understand how high the stakes really are for winning/losing the Acquisition trials.
The story is certainly interesting and although a bit twisted it is written in a captivating style and I actually cannot wait for the third book to come out.
