I’m so so so happy that I managed to avoid spoilers for this book, as I had to wait a bit before I could buy it. I love Lynette Noni so so much, and although this is no Medoran Chronicles Book, Noni has stolen my heart and invested me DEEP (don’t pull another Graevale battle scene!)

I just loved the premise of this story. Too often the words that we speak have such uncontrollable power but at the same time, we can wield the power and direct it. There’s such an underlying and resonating meaning behind this story, and by God did I love it.

I got heartbroken. I yelled “You bastard” at least a dozen times. I wept when “Jane” finally spoke. I just can’t even.

It was a pleasure seeing Noni at Sydney Supanova this weekend past, and being able to discuss what I had already read with her. She’s an absolute Aussie treasure and I love her so much ❤️

This is the first book by Lynette Noni I have read. Best way to explain  my thoughts of this novel is mid: not amazing..... but not terrible..
Without giving away too many spoilers, post the novel's main plot twist, the story does unfortunately become quite bland and predictable. It did not stick out to me as unique or addictive in the right ways a book should. Its like eating something you have never tried before; so much potential.. but in the end disapointing.
Do not get me wrong there were some positives:
I liked the way Lynette explores the ideals behind mental illness, especially through her main character Jane Doe. Portraying  the vicious battle between heart and mind'Im screaming on the inside, screaming so loud yet knowing no one will hear me, no one will help me, because no sound escapes my lips"
WARNING! this novel does explore emotional and physical abuse!! But portrays the victims  grief and trauma, tastefully but descriptive, almost as if your the one experiencing it. "my skin feels cold and clammy, yet my forehead is dotted with sweat, I am not sure if it is what he is saying or if my body has reached its final limits."
The foreshadowing of Jane Does ability highlighting the importance of freedom of speech and its consequences "Words are everything to me. They are life. They are death. They fill all the spaces in between"."The words do not matter as much as their intent" pg108. "Words are too precious to throw around carelessly"
Kael.... I LOVE HIM!!! treats Jane Doe as more than a puppet, or a project, providing her a sense of purpose and self-worth AND THEIR FRIEND/RELATIONSHIP - "He has given me the confidence to be an active part of our conversation. Nothing bad has happened"
Ward..... Lynette why make me fall in love with a character and then give me PG 127!!! Leave me yelling and having to take a break from the book for a few days to regroup and process what just happened. As the book progresses, it makes me hate Ward even more..... until pg 319... classic case of the good guy becomes the bad guy but in the end pretends to be a bad guy to yet again be a good guy.
I do however want to read the second novel to answer some unanswered questions...
I would not say to not read this book but its not one I would rave about either.
Recommended for those who love a bit of mystery, action and sci-fi.

A really interesting story. I love this author and it’s not as good as her other series but I still really liked it. Psychological and fantasy with the power to speak things. Self discovery and suffering through challenges. Really sweet romance subplot
