A lot of fun! Very slow-paced, and it's definitely a book where I had to write a list of the characters down to follow who was doing what - but the mystery is cool, and a really fun usage of the setting.

So this series is a murder mystery set in 12th century. Our protagonist brother Cadfael journeys with his brothers from England to Wales to retrieve the bones of Saint Winifred. What should have been peaceful and easy endevor, comlicates itself greatly first by opposition and than by murder . However it is nothing Brother Cadfael cannot solve.
So this was great start of a series and I will definitely continue with it and I hope I will be able to it give a higher score. The mystery itself was really interesting, but I was left wanting a bit different ending.

All the right pieces were in place for this to be an enjoyable mystery with a fun setting, but somehow I just found myself very bored by this story. I didn’t care a whit about anyone but Cadfael, and I was lukewarm even to him. Maybe the style was just a bit too plain, or the plot a bit too repetitive and conventional. Oh well, the ending, at least, was fairly original. I wouldn’t be against giving this series a second chance some time.
I have watched some of the Cadfael series on Acorn and had t realized they came from books. I found this an enjoyable read and I am glad there are more. Cadfael is clever and fair.

What a fun mystery, lighthearted and playful. It might be a literary bowl of sugary cereal, but what a great bowl of cereal. The audiobook narration is also excellent; it feels like listening to an old storyteller by the fireside.
