Ellis Peters

3.73 AVERAGE

Looking for a good mystery series, I came back to Ellis Peters, whom I had read decades ago. The first in her Brother Cadfael books was a pleasant read, if not riveting. Cadfael is a very likeable character, a monk who has known the pleasures of the flesh as well as the rigors of soldiering. Might continue, might not.

I think this would be a lot more enjoyable if the author didn’t cram as many big words as she could into every single sentence (I think this may have been more of an issue because I was reading it aloud, which was a workout in and of itself, and it would have been fine if I was just reading it on my own). However, the characters were fun and there were some really funny passages, and I quote “God resolves all given time” constantly now.

My favorite so far! What a pesky rebel rascal Cadfael is! {re-read: it's been a few years since I've read this, and I was afraid I'd remember too much, as I knew the gist. But nope! It was just as wonderful as when I first read it!]
