This mystery was the perfect mix between history, religion, murder, and humor. Anyone who enjoys historical fiction or Agatha Christie-like mysteries will love this!

This was a lovely little mystery as told through the eyes of Benedictine Brother Cadfael. I have seen some of the Cadfael PBS series but this was my first time reading any of the books, and I was very pleasantly surprised to find that the TV series was true to the author and her character.

A definite recommend, both the book and the series!

This was a lot of fun! Recommended by the Dean Robert Willis from Canterbury Cathedral. I want to read more of these books!

I enjoyed reading it, it was comforting in the times when comfort is much needed, I liked the language and small details, how brother Cadfael notices all plant related things. What I didn't like and what contributed to the lover rating was the simplicity of most of heroes. Brother Cadfael himself is very interesting, most other are one sided, either good or bad. Especially the description of collective image of that Welsh village was repetitive and got tiresome. + The detective line is very weak.

Very clever and enjoyable! A little bit too wordy (lots wasted on irrelevant things) and took a very long time to get going but once it started it was great. I loved the interesting ending especially.

Just way too slow to get to the actual plot.

An unexpectedly pleasant murder mystery. If you like Wales, England, and medieval settings, try this.
