As the mother of a child with moderate hearing loss, this was such an eye opening and important book. I hope my daughter can grow up seeing her hearing aids as a special and cool part of her. Great graphic memoir!

4.5 Stars

I really enjoy just about any book in the graphic novel memoir genre. I particularly like the fact that this one dealt with so many confusing friendships, the difficult part of growing up (well, one of them).
I feel for Bell - poor thing. I'm glad she was able to embrace her deafness and make peace with her childhood. I also liked the disclaimer at the end about everyone's deafness being their own - that Bell can only speak for her own experience.
My daughter wants to read it - I hope she enjoys it as much as I did.

A great GN memoir that focuses on the struggles of growing up, especially when you are "different" in some way. CeCe Bell lost her hearing to an illness at age four, and this is her story.

One of Claire’s vacation books- she enjoyed it and asked me to read it! Really great graphic novel that I’ll look to add to my classroom library. I love that the main character is not typical and this book is great to show kids/students that everyone has their own struggles to make friends and to be understanding and kind.

Main character became mostly deaf when she had meningitis - she wears a hearing aide and had learned to read lips and feels different from her peers and family members.

I like how this graphic novel follows her through a handful of school years :) very cute story!

A beautiful graphic novel memoir! I love that Cece took (what some would say is) her disability and turned it into her superpower. Great story!

Really wonderful middle grade graphic novel. It’s perfect for young people to learn to empathize more and deepen their understanding of the dead community and other isolating disabilities. The way the story is told is cute and profound and can really do a lot of good for those who read it

Incredible. Extremely good. Beautiful everything. I'm in love.

This book was so sweet!

"Our differences are our superpowers."

Beautiful book!

Graphic novel about a deaf girl in the 70s. Completely charming and hilarious.
