Great book highlighting just a few of the faces behind the behemoth "government" that seems to be so easy to hate these days.  So important to see some of the unknown things that everyday federal employees are out there getting done that benefit so many people on a day-to-day basis, without the pressures of "making money" or "being a good investment."  Should be absolutely mandatory reading for every elected official who thinks the solution to our budget problem can be solved by firing federal workers.

Wanted more of Michael Lewis narrating. Wasn’t very interested in the other contributors.

I learned so much reading this book. Some essays are stellar- the essay on IRS, FDA, and DOJ. Some essays were not as great. But overall- I enjoyed the book and feel I am better for it. I also have a greater understanding for why the current administration is trying to destroy our government.

Moment of silence for those who do the hard work and don't get or want the praise they deserve. Moment of screaming into the void for those who don't stop talking about what they've done, prop themselves up on the aforementioned heroes, and then cut jobs and funding. This collection of essays was uplifting, it's approach was positive and affirming. But I couldn't silence the voice in my head repeating the futility of it all. Still... I'm glad there are still people out there throwing the starfish that have washed up on the shore back into the ocean. After all, while its impact might not be felt by the majority it matters to "this one".
