Nice essays about some lesser know government workers. Each piece was about the length of a podcast, so it was an easy listen and I learned some things!

I liked it, but feel this would have worked better as a single-authored text by Lewis. His two essays each lived up to the book’s premise for me, whereas I found the other pieces less compelling.

Three quarters through this book I was overwhelmingly sad.  I always enjoy a Michael Lewis book;  it's always been a smart, uplifting read that restores your faith in the American spirit.  He has the knack for portraits of quiet Americans who find their passion in life and pursue it to the benefit of society and other Americans.

However in the context of this administration's policies, all I could wonder about was which of these admirable Americans survived the Doge cuts. Which of the government programs they put in place to benefit American life survives Elon or the budget bill now under the Senate's consideration.  Are any of these people or programs still in place?

I felt sad and nostalgiac for a way of life now passed into history.
