It's been a long time since I finished a book this quickly, but it was hard to put down. Each short story was incredibly interesting. At a time when the US government is trying to shrink the federal workforce, this book serves as a reminder for why that decision could have terrible impacts for all.

Very informative to see case studies of government workers who are passionate about improving quality of life for Americans (and stopping bad guys). If someone was questioning what the government is good for, I feel it’s only a matter of brief research to find the ways it impacts our daily lives for the better. That being said, they casually omit any FBI or CIA workers ;)
As in most collections of work from different authors, there are writing styles I enjoyed and others I felt were too slow-moving.

4.5 rounded up but I really did love this book. I was brought to tears (multiple times) by the stories of these people working incredibly hard in their roles to help the general public in ways I would have never even considered. If I grow up to have even half of the empathy, work ethic, selflessness, and determination of the people in this book, I will have succeeded.
(Some chapters def resonated with me more than others but I’d still give it a 5 stars overall)
