I'm going to be honest, I wasn't expecting to like this one as much as I did. Patrick O'Doul wasn't one of my favorites in the previous book, but I enjoyed him in this one. Especially since it covers the toll being the enforcer has on him. Plus, I had liked the brief interactions with his love interest, Ari Bettini, in the previous book and was happy to learn more about her.

The main couple have a sweet relationship that makes you want to root for them. The mystery/thriller aspect makes for an interesting B plot. I wish the story had done more with the organized crime aspect. There was no real puck bunny or unrealistic paparazzi content, which was nice.

Main: Patrick and Ariana
Plot: she is the yoga instructor/massage therapist for the team who recently split from her bf who had some shady club dealings. He had some injuries that led him to trying uppers and ends up caught in the scandal when her ex releases the photos and threatens Ari with a photo of them kissing. He needs to get over some past childhood trauma of getting into fights and she is scared to open up. There’s a crazy scene where her bf dies because of the shady stuff he was in. They end up in love and both still working for the team.

Doulie is not an easy guy to get to know. He doesn't like people around him, he doesn't like to be touched, and he is the most anti-social individual on the team. As the team captain, it's kind of odd nobody has seemed to notice.

Ari has her own demons to conquer in the form of her ex who won't take a hint. Though the captain intrigues her, she is not willing to delve too deeply into anyone else's problems. But she just can't seem to shake the hard bodied captain or the feeling that he needs something more...

I love romances. I drool over sports romances. Hot sensitive, brooding types....oh hells yeah! Flawed characters that would make awesome real life friends...yup. Only thing you are missing...this book!

I am the queen of jumping into an already started series and saying I need to catch up. it's true but it doesn't diminish my need to get my hands on book one or my even greater desire to find out why Lauren is such a nasty...rhymes with witch. Looking forward to learn and loving with the whole team.
