I'm actually pretty into the Bruisers series. Hot hockey players?? Yes please!
Though the writing is formulaic, I loved getting to know Ari and Patrick.
Definitely worth the read if you're a fan of Sarina Bowen.

L.O.V.E.D. IT!
I was a bit meh (on the Sarina Bowen scale) about the first book in this series but this was just amazing.
Patrick O'Doul is the captain of the Brooklyn Bruisers hockey team. His role is the Enforcer, basically the guy who fights guys on the other teams, and he is getting old and tired. The only bright spot is the mandatory team yoga classes with Ariana Bettini.
When the coaches mandate that O'Doul has massage therapy for a hip injury he is deeply unhappy but slowly Ari helps him with his pain. Then one day Ari and O'Doul accidentally switch Katt phones and O'Doul receives a series of abusive texts from Ari's ex. Concerned for her safety O'Doul rushes to her home to rescue her and Boom!
I always have a soft spot for the hard man with a soft centre and O'Doul is perfect. A man who values his solitude and hasn't made many friends, he keeps the team in line with a series of fines for infringement of anything he chooses (swearing in front of a mother and children, being late on the bus, making a stupid comment etc). But until Ari he hasn't let anyone close.
I think it's pretty obvious who the next book will be about but I also have deep speculations about beautiful, bitchy Queen Lauren's past.
With this second book Sarina Bowen has made me love the Brooklyn Bruisers series as much as her others. Waiting impatiently for the next one (in any series).
Still one of my all-time favourite authors, most definitely an auto-buy, pre-order, one-click author.

This included some heavy topics, but managed not to be too heavy of a book. Wish there was more than a HFN. I do like that O’Doul was a damaged guy but Ari wasn’t expected to save or redeem him. He was a mature adult with his life and emotions mostly together, and he redeemed himself, and was totally supportive of Ari when she was dealing with her ex. A perfect, flawed, guy.
Graphic: Drug use, Violence
Moderate: Gun violence
Minor: Domestic abuse, Sexism, Death of parent, Murder
