Loved this so much. Felt like hanging out with my friends. So amazing to read a book so closely aligned with my own queer experience. Just sweet and sad and lovely, can't wait to see what's next for Liv Little.

Absolutely LOVED this novel. The characters were extremely vivid and jumped off the page. I could not put this book down. I love reading queer novels where the characters aren’t perfect. This reflects what living life is like for a black queer woman in the most beautiful of ways. I would highly recommend this book.

a beautifully written poetic prose piece about love, sex, friendship, class struggles, and black queerness. i love how it was written and that it emulated elsie and her tone and inflection. i really felt connected with elsie as a character, through her poetry, her flaws, her sensuality, and her devotion to juliet. as troubled as she was, i think at the root of her is someone who loves so deeply but wasn’t taught what to do with that love and she learns in her late twenties what it means to be in love with her best friend. i enjoyed a lot of the side characters like maggie, nan, juliet, and bea and they helped solidify the story and make it a full fledged community that elsie had to support her even in her roughest moments. i docked a star because the end was a tad rushed for my liking and i’m usually not a fan of shock value so the whole car crash thing didn’t really vibe with the rest of the story’s tempo but i thought the very end was beautiful and i’m so happy it didn’t end with a queer woman of color dying and instead was the beginning of what i think is a beautiful love story
