Here we have an older woman who is starting a new life and to initiate this her friends convince her to step out of her comfort zone and enjoy a night out but at the last minute, due to an emergency, they both bailed. But before she could call it quits and heads home she has an exchange with a guy at the bar which leads to a conversation which leads to an amazing night. Of course, as romance stories often do, turns out this stranger is going to be tightly entwined in her life for awhile and complications plus some feelings arise.

Please be aware TW for DA as a topic of this book. Admittedly I wasn't aware of that so I was a little surprised and thrown off when a big part of the story/background was around that concept.

I really enjoyed that the characters were older, I liked their chemistry and aside from a few meh things I overall had a good time. Some things were a little annoying but I still ended up really liking it.

4 stars, maybe even 4.5 stars.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and the writing and the story she told was great too. I especially loved Jake and how kind and patient he was with Naya. Their connection was so wonderful with tons of chemistry and I loved reading about them. I also found myself laughing out loud at the interactions between the characters and especially between Jake and Naya.

I flew through this book in about 24 hours. I couldn’t put it down. Definitely can’t wait to pick up the authors next book.

Such a good book.

It had potential. But that's about it.

At the end of the day, this story was too forgettable. I was bored and I wanted to DNF it, but I really despise leaving a story unfinished.

It was just too...tame. I couldn't feel anything or connect with the characters. It honestly felt like the author was writing an essay for class without much thought or passion. Like she was forced to write it.

It wasn't horrible. It was just too sweet. Someone else might like this book better than me. I'll leave it up to you.

Would I re-read this? No.
Would I recommend this? No.
Was I entertained? Some of the smut scenes were hot, but god, this book ultimately bored the shit out of me.

Happy reading, Goodreads fiends.

HOW TO FAIL AT FLIRTING by Denise Williams is the super cute romcom with a dash of gut-punch and real-life lessons that you didn’t know you needed. For real. I went into this not expecting the tough conversations about how a survivor of abuse enters a new relationship built on trust and understanding, and I came out the other side full of love and rooting for our main character. While this is definitely a romance, it’s also a book about a woman discovering how to be whole again. It’s a journey of self-love, as well as companionable love.
