This book was okay. I became invested enough to finish it, but I wouldn’t read it again. The FMC’s friends were terrible. She was a hypocrite. She needed therapy, not a man.

I really enjoyed the romance between the two characters, but the theme of domestic abuse (with the abuser lurking just off-page much of the book) made it a very tense read and I feel like we should’ve spent more time on our MC healing from trauma than on the flirty romance. I also really, really didn’t like that when she had a trauma response near the end and it was her who ended up apologizing for “messing everything up.” Trauma victims need to be understood and given space, not made to apologize.

The romance was decent. A bit love bomb-y, but cute.
What I REALLY didn't like was how the love interest behaved during the big third act fight (and after) when the MC had a trigger response. Nor how the MC groveled for having had this trigger respons and "messing it all up".
Nor did I like how quickly they made up.
It was also very "look how smart I am and sharp my quips are". They never stopped.. a bit cringey.
