WOW WOW WOW. this is my second book by denise and definitely my favorite!! nia and jake just felt so real. like they were imperfect characters, their reactions to certain situations was just so human, and i loved them for it. i honestly wouldn’t change a thing about this book. each of their pasts made me cry ngl - especially nia’s. they were just so cute with each other - the back and forth was so funny and had me giggling and smiling while listening. the spice was phenomenal - jake could GET IT.

I absolutely LOVED this book! The characters are so relatable, Naya's struggles with DV hit home for me, and Naya's and Jake's love story is realistic and adorable.

Naya is extremely relatable to me. She is a fierce, intelligent woman. I appreciated that Denise Williams wrote her as such because of her struggle with past DV. It shows readers that DV can happen to anyone. It doesn't happen to just women who are "weak" or "dumb" or whatever other stereotypical response you can think of. Please be vigilant not only of our relationship, but the relationships of those closest to you. Jake's unhealthy past relationship is also discussed. Not just women can experience DV.

I highly recommend this book to everyone. Denise Williams has officially become an instant read/buy for me! I can't wait to read more from her.

It's been a bit since I read this but I enjoyed this book quite a bit. I thought the writing was solid and the character / plot balance was as well. I am very much looking forward to reading the sequel.

TRIGGER WARNING: The main character was in an abusive relationship, she is dealing with her trauma during the book, her abuser comes back into her life and attacks her. This was nowhere in the description and there was no trigger warning at the start of the book. It is really bad form for the publishers to miss this important step.

I really adored this book.

I listened to the audio version, and appreciated how well the narrator captured each character.

I love a romance that doesn't shy away from big issues, baggage, trauma, and redemption, and 'How to Fail at Flirting' delivers on all fronts.

Naya is a strong, admirable heroine. Jake is a dreamy, just-flawed-enough leading man to really draw you in. The supporting cast is well drawn and serves the story well, though they all could have been a bit more fleshed out. The dialogue felt a bit stilted at times--it's really hard to write jokes that don't come off as forced or cheesy--but overall the writing is solid.

There's plenty of steam, supported by a plot that deals with more than flirty texts and bedroom eyes. This is the love story of two real, three-dimensional people, and I loved every minute of it.

The balance of heavy and light topics was perfection, I can’t believe this was a debut. It was amazing, I truly felt for Naya and Jake, the relationship was mature and believable that it was between two adults. The topics were complex and thoroughly fleshed out and there was resolution to them. I cannot wait for her next book. I loved this book but definitely check out content warnings before reading
