I don’t really know how I feel about this book. It was quite heavy for a romance, which I don’t mind. I quite enjoy romances that tackle difficult situations and topics, and I liked how this book handled it. I think the book was a probably painfully relatable experience for those who have experienced domestic abuse (or abuse of any kind), and I liked how the character learned to navigate her life and relationships after it. It shows a hopeful yet realistic depiction of trying to move forward from abuse. I liked this aspect of the book.
As for the characters. I hate to say it, but I just could not get myself to feel anything towards the main character. I don’t know why, and it might just be me, but I didn’t care for her as much as I should have. I thought her love interest was sweet, but almost too perfect at times. Except during the main conflict of the book he did a complete 180 and felt like a different person to me.
In terms of the relationship, I thought it was okay. I felt like it all moved very fast, but it didn’t seem unrealistic or too insta-lovey, it’s just my personal preference.
Overall, I think I enjoyed this book, and if you’re looking for a romance novel that covers some heavier topics, this is the book for you.
