trigger warnings: sexual assault, abusive ex, gaslighting, harassment, slut shaming, sexual content, alcohol, divorce

A really touching romance that is brimming with passion and also hella anxiety. I did appreciate the care with which the author wrote the romance between the two leads while the main character was also dealing with her abusive ex coming back into the picture and making her life a living hell. I loved the growth of both the leads together and as individuals leading to them being stronger together in the end. Also the vindication in the conclusion.....absolutely epic.

While I very much enjoyed reading this book, I never stopped thinking that, well, I was reading a book about fictional characters. I know how dumb that must sound but it sort of stopped me from relating to the characters 100%. This might have more to do with me than with the story.

It still provided me with a good time though. The chemistry between the two main characters was there, I liked that the conflict had to do with more than miscommunication, and I liked how genuine the resolution was.

This book is a lot heavier than the flirty title might suggest. The topics it covers include things that no one should ever experience, but at the same time are unfortunately experienced everyday.

I loved Naya's line of work. I love academia and I loved the inclusion of English Learners. I also really appreciated how language was talked about in her own family circles.

Unfortunately I wasn't crazy for all of the ways the romance unfolded in this story. But overall I did like Jake and Naya.

This was a deep read and evokes a lot of feelings. Please see content warnings!

+1 for diversity
+1 for "I want to admit that I already added a note on my calendar that May seventh is the day I met you,"
+1 for the meet cute at the bar & librarians named Gladys

Sadly,
the book fell flat for me. I wanted a cute and sexy contemporary romance and this blurb was misleading, I wish I had been aware of the trigger warnings.
