a work about growing pains and identity i hoped to have identified more with, but that never really goes anywhere.

Rachel Cusk always has the ability to express ordinary life in an authentic and genuine way. The balance between romance whilst also remaining true to life is unmatched. Her writing is elegant, soft and gentle always leaving me wanting more. Recently finding out that Rachel Cusk wrote this when she was 25 gives me a sense of comfort. Twenty five is a time when we have the choice between plummeting into self destruction or making conscious choices for a better life. Still, it is also a time where we are left confused and not knowing what to do and what are the right choices. Exploring the relationships of housemates and navigating different personalities to the yearning and angst of chasing after an unavailable man and sexual assault to building on career, I was surprised that these problems that plagued me in my mid twenties still remain relevant today

Something about the tone was annoying to me and I didn't really care what happened to the main character. The most entertaining character was her friend at work, and she played a minor role.
