A perfect supernatural thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat and contained enough voudou to keep me enthralled.. I loved this and look forward to reading more from the author.

I loved this freaky, awesome book! I'm not usually a haunted house/ ghost story gal but this was so well-written. Angela Toussaint is a fabulously-written, complicated, kick-ass character and I was so excited to see a woman of color drive the narrative. The supporting cast of Naomi, Miles, Corey, Tariq, the mayor, the neighbors, it was a compelling, awesome slow burn.

It did feel a little slow at times, and in some ways the Grandmother Marie character felt like she took up too much oxygen for being an offstage presence.

But on the whole, I thought it made for a thrilling and creepy book that was well-worth the long read. I could not put it down. How is this not a major motion picture? I would absolutely make this mini-series -- such a wonderful deep bench of actors to choose from!

For 400+ pages, this one really flew by. I'm not a big horror reader but I really enjoyed this one.

This was such a powerful story. Lots of craziness. Disturbing in the best ways (mostly). I also loved the cultural depth of the story.

Good God, this book.

You can feel the author's love of the genre in every beat of this story. This was a terrifying tale worthy of the likes of King, but characters brought to life with the cultural specificity and emotional perspective unique to Due. I was floored by this book. A perfect read for October.

Beautifully written and perfectly paced for suspense. The imagery really delivers. Angela, Marie, & Naomi are all incredibly believable and strong characters. I loved this book a lot.
