"The Good House" is another example of Tananarive Due's excellent writing. The book is big and long, but I found it to be the right length for the story. I think if it were any shorter, it would have come off like torture porn thrillers that glide along on action with no substance. This book lets you really sink into the story, get to know the town, the people, who they were, who they become, and who they could have been.

Fair warning for those of you out there who like to know this sort of thing, the following commonly triggering occurrences exist in this book (if you'd rather be surprised, skip this:) rape, child molestation, and other sexual assault, racist violence and murder, animal abuse, and suicide. The book does not drown you in these things for shock value. They are more part of the story and peoples lives. It is a horror novel so horrifying things happen, but I would not call it trauma porn. I managed ok and I am a very sensitive person if that is any consolation.

I don't want to write too much about this book because there are things that are revealed every step of the way and it is part of the experience for these things to be surprising. So, I will keep this review short and just say that this is another good on from Due.
