She knew now what her mermaid held cupped in her hands. Not a gem, not a shell. She’d hold a clear glass ball. Inside the ball, another mermaid sat on the rock, looking out at sea, a whale sounding, with a glass ball in her hand. And in that, yet another.

I haven’t read a Nora Roberts novel in years but I was told her latest was pretty good. Inheritance is Book one in The Lost Bride Trilogy. It has paranormal elements which intrigued me. The FMC, Sonya, inherits a haunted gothic mansion from an uncle she never knew she had. She, her BFF and two male love interests are trying to figure out the multiple mysteries that lay within the mansion.

There were many repetitive writing throughout the book: taking the dog out, exercising, cooking and work projects over and over. It ended on a legit cliffhanger and I found myself wanting more. Book one seemed to the set up to the rest of the trilogy. All in all, it’s a solid read. I will continue the series.

3.75 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️💫

It’s a cliffhanger!! 🤦🏼‍♀️ I don’t ever read Nora Roberts Books because I don’t particularly need the language or smut, but this one didn’t seem too bad on that part.  Sonja ends up discovering her past when an uncle she didn’t know she had, leaves the family manor and mystery to her.  She uproots her life and discovers that the haunted manor truly is hers, along with the mystery of the lost/murdered brides.

The book sets the goals and questions for this series: to find out more about the inheritance and the curse, and how to stop the curse from continuing. Even if
we get a suggested solution
and the supernatural keeps getting grander, the ending feels a little unsatisfying with how much is still unanswered. The ending is a cliffhanger of sorts: you'll know something BIG is happening, but it's only just starting now.

What made this book for me was the setting. The whole premise of the book is that the main character, Sonya, is given ownership of a Victorian mansion on the upper east coast in Maine. This mansion is seriously my dream. I currently live in a smaller victorian in a small town, and the description of this estate absolutely hooked me. I wanted so badly to live there, with hauntings and all. Now, this is at it's essence a ghost story, so the romance was kind of meh. But the backstory of the ghosts and what was happening was very interesting. I really enjoyed the interweaving of stories of each ghost and how they fit together. And I'll be reading the second book for their stories, not for the protagonists.

What can I say Nora dod again. The book has all the elements in it from emotional, spooky, love and romance, funny. The only thing I would change is….nothing. I appreciated the imagery and the fact that it was not a dull moment. Thr book took off but it wasn’t a face paced like an action film but just enough to keep the reader engaged. Can’t wait to see what book two has in-store.
Sonia finally found the mirror!
