It’s a cliffhanger!! 🤦🏼‍♀️ I don’t ever read Nora Roberts Books because I don’t particularly need the language or smut, but this one didn’t seem too bad on that part.  Sonja ends up discovering her past when an uncle she didn’t know she had, leaves the family manor and mystery to her.  She uproots her life and discovers that the haunted manor truly is hers, along with the mystery of the lost/murdered brides.

The book sets the goals and questions for this series: to find out more about the inheritance and the curse, and how to stop the curse from continuing. Even if
we get a suggested solution
and the supernatural keeps getting grander, the ending feels a little unsatisfying with how much is still unanswered. The ending is a cliffhanger of sorts: you'll know something BIG is happening, but it's only just starting now.

A mystery and a romance and some paranormal activity, Nora Roberts has done it again! I love her books that she blends the past with the present. I do have to say that I'm bummed that I have to wait so long for the next one.

First I’ll go to the last. That ending! I was on the edge of my seat and I’m not sure which way I wanted it to go. But also, that ending is a HUGE cliffhanger. So be warned. I thought this would be a trilogy in the sense that the stories would be related but still have a full arc for each book. It’s actually a trilogy in the sense that the three books will be one long story playing out. I kind of wish I had known that going in, to be honest. (FYI for my Romance peeps, there is an HFN with any romantic elements so no worries there.)

Because I was looking at this book as a complete story when I started it, I felt the pacing was slow. I didn’t realize, until far into the book when it was obvious there would be no wrap-up, that this book functioned as more of a setup of the overall story. It was interesting and I love all of the characters so I stuck with it regardless of the pacing. Yet I don’t think I would have felt the pacing was slow if I had known how the trilogy was set up from the very beginning.

As for the genre, I don’t know how to categorize this book. Sonya and her BFF Cleo mention how gothic the house and grounds of Sonya’s new house seem, and this story definitely reminds me of a classic gothic novel in many ways. There are a ton of paranormal things happening. I’m thinking paranormal mystery since Sonya and Cleo, along with their new friends Trey and Owen, are trying to figure out the why of the amped-up haunting of her house. It’s always had a reputation, but since Sonya moved in the odd happenings have been dialed up to eleven.

The way we get to know some of the spirits as well as we know the living and breathing characters is amazing. I adore Sonya’s relationship with her mom and Cleo. Trey and his whole family are such lovely people. The instant connection Sonya and Trey have is great, but she also has a wonderful sort of familial chemistry with the rest of the family.

This story was somehow warm and inviting while being spooky and ominous. Don’t ask me to explain that because I can’t. Now the wait is on for the next part of this trilogy…

First off thank you to St. Martin’s Press and netgalley for the advanced copy. 

I was hooked to the story at the beginning. It starts off with a bang. This story goes between the past and the present. In the beginning we meet one of the brides and her tragic end. Then we go to the present where we meet Sonja and oh boy. Nora Roberts sure knows how to hook her readers. This is my first book by her. 

I really enjoyed the paranormal aspects of this book. I did feel like there were some plot holes in the story though. If you’re a fan of slow burns and paranormal you might enjoy this book! It has some sweet dogs in it which I enjoyed as well. I felt like the romance parts were a little unbelievable though and kind of weird at some parts, but overall I enjoyed the story.

The ending!!! What a cliffhanger. And one I was not expecting. And to think I have to wait months/years?  for the second book, since this one won’t be released until November! 

First, a huge thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and author for the privilege of reading Inheritance.

I recently read Identity by Norah Roberts and thought this might be similar. And while it is Nora Roberts’s writing style with amazing characters and writing, this 400 plus page book has so many more twists and turns. Plus did I mention the surprise conclusion? The characters, the setting, the romance, the ghosts are all woven together in a way that draws the reader into the story immediately.  I really want to know more. This one is so good, I can’t believe I can’t just keep reading the second, and third, books in this trilogy. I will return. I just hope Sonja and Owen do as well!
