I do have complaints about the book seeing as some of it did rub me the wrong way and seemed slightly racist.

Elodie, a grunge-loving 90s teen, is forced by her mother to take a camp counselor job, which is the last thing she wants to do. Forced into the wilderness with no prior experience, Elodie must deal with a handful of rowdy and weird co-counselors, all while something very suspicious and perhaps supernatural is occurring.

Overall, I would say I enjoyed Camp Spirit. The characters were sassy, sarcastic, and well...just kind of strange at points, which I thought was fun. I appreciated that the queer romance was actually explored, instead of being something just surface-level and implied.

I did think the story dragged at certain parts, although things start picking up at the end—I definitely did not predict the direction that this went. However, I’m not exactly sure how I felt about the plot twist. I think I would have preferred if this graphic novel was realistic fiction instead of taking a strange paranormal turn, although for a camp themed novel, I do think a paranormal theme was ironically appropriate since it gave off a camp story vibe. I think my only other complaint was that the art style wasn’t really my favorite, but I didn’t find that to be too distracting.

Overall, this was mostly entertaining but I just wish it didn’t take the turn it did at the end.

This book is great! I love the redheads. Chief is really funny and unusual. I also like Hector. The only thing that bothered me was Eddy's very sexist comments. >:( he's so rude. The drawings in this book were awesome too!
