I’m writing this review after doing a reread of this book in anticipation for TGR. It’s been said before that this book reads like a JereJean fanfiction, and lowkey I agree, but that’s not to say that I still don’t enjoy it. Though I’m not as taken with this book as I am with the og trilogy, I’m still very invested in Jean and what will happen to him. Honestly my biggest struggle with this book is that the setting is my childhood stomping grounds, and so knowing the setting so well really messes with my suspension of disbelief (how I wish Nora had the foresight to place Jeremy and the Trojans in a random made up college in California instead of the very real USC). But on a more serious note, I think the biggest problem this book has is it’s a tug of war between what it should be (character-focused with very little plot centering mostly on Jean’s journey to healing) and what Nora is good at writing (fast-paced and high-tension plot). But it’s an AFTG book, so of course I love it

Sat down on the couch and did not move until I finished this book. Absolutely obsessed with every book in this series and I wish it was a never ending stream of books I could read

“Well,” Renee said when he trailed off, “isn’t that reason enough to keep living? To rediscover simple delights one moment at a time, I mean.” … “What you hold onto is less important than the act of holding on itself. It’s so easy to get lost in ourselves and this world. Sometimes you need to find your way back one tiny miracle at a time.”

something something about healing and moving forward

I could not put this down. So heartbreaking and everything I wanted it to be. Characters from the original trilogy being sprinkled in was a lovely surprise and getting to know Jean and the Trojans was delightful. Literally put my through every emotion a person could possibly feel and I am so excited for the next book!
