I don’t know why I find these books so addicting the first time around. I thought my taste had changed , since I didn’t enjoy rereading the first book, but I absolutely devoured this one. Warning: this is absolutely fic-flavored trauma porn.

i plowed through the original trilogy and it got 5 stars across all three for me. i adore neil and andrew and the foxes. i think jean still might be my favorite character. part of that is the benefits of being the main character of a sequel so you know the world and lore intimately in a way the original doesn't allow without being much longer. part of it is the sequel being written much later with the author having improved a lot as a writer since then. most of it is jean's story being brutal and raw in the same way that tugged at me with andrew, except this time jean is the one whose head we live in the majority of the time.
My rating: 3 stars.
Oh! So. I did not expect this.
It somehow looks a bit like The Foxhole Court in terms of presenting the setup of the characters, but it feels a little more... shiny than what was introduced to us by Neil in the first book. I really liked what Nora did with the two POVs during the book and the presentation of Jean and Jeremy. I'm unapologetically obsessed with these two. The Trojans are also a very nice team and I can't wait to know more about them (especially Cat and Laila!). LOVED the foxes cameos — I love Kevin to pieces and Neil, as always, is my best friend forever. I can't wait for the second book!!

unfortunately, i hit a reading slump after finishing the aftg trilogy, so it took me longer than usual to get through this one but god, i really really loved it.
my heart ached reading jean’s storyline, i can’t believe everything he had to endure. i don’t blame him at all for struggling to let others in when all he’s ever known is people treating him like an object, something to be used and controlled. even his own parents were the first to discard him like he was nothing. i’m so happy he finally has people who will actually put his well being first because they truly care about him.
i wasn’t expecting to love jeremy this much but what can I say? men with golden retriever energy will always get me. i really hope next book will give us more insight into his past.
and don’t even get me started on the whole grayson situation, it wrecked me. i want that bastard DEAD. as for lucas……. he’s so unbelievably stupid. like, what did he think was going to happen???
