It was interesting to see one of the most notorious origins of vampire stories as we know them today. There were some points I really enjoyed and others that I thought were not as interesting. I am happy I finally read it but it wasn't one of my favs

I have wanted to read this forever, so I'm glad a spooky buddy read with Sarah finally made it happen.
Did I love this book? Ehh. I enjoyed reading it. I thought the Renfield bits were interesting and some of the action was really good. I was a bit disappointed by the ending - it was so abrupt. All the workup for a very quick resolution.

Also justice for Quincey Morris - I mean what was that??

Suspenseful in the extreme, the communication of the story through letters and diaries is not only interesting but also surprisingly compelling. An absolute mastery of the gothic horror genre, this book was really cool and I loved it all.

i SO wanted to love this book, but unfortunately i only liked it. i loved the scary parts, as they were fast-paced and really laid down the vampire lore that we know today, but the slower parts of the book were almost painful to get through (notice how it took me 21 days to finish it…i kept procrastinating my reading). this book for real could’ve been like 200 pages shorter and it would’ve been a much better read. i’ll probably like it more upon rereading it

Incredibly mid, miles too long and patronising and misogynistic.

Its greatest sin is being both ludicrous and almost unreadably boring
