So I don’t know how to feel about this book. For 24 chapters I had to keep hearing about Laine’s only friend who is also her worst friend Kelly Anne and their co-dependent relationship. It was really toxic. I get her relationship is apart of her character development but it still sucks that it went on that long and honestly the pay off in the end was even worth it. To me she really didn’t have much character development by the end of it she just dropped a toxic friendship. She is a real people pleaser and it’s annoying the whole book. She likes to please her friend and even Nick the love interest because she just want to feel loved and cared for. I was happy when it ended but by the end I was annoyed every time I saw her name on the screen.

Nick was an okay character he at least asked her what she wanted and wanted her to choose what she wanted to do and pick everything for herself and not for him. I liked that also. I do believe that he was abused as a child cause I do remember reading about how he had scars on his back from when his dad use to punish him. And it was glossed over to me. He just keep saying his dad was fair but strong man. I do like his character development because he had strong control issues from the fact that he lost his girlfriend and daughter that he raised she wasn’t his but he cared for them. He lost them for the girlfriends dumb choices of going to meet with her ex and her ex was drinking and killed her and the daughter in a car accident. He burned the belt at the end which I found great he was letting go of his past and taking down his daughter Jane’s room.

Kelly Anne was annoying. She didn’t have a POV in the books but she was annoying as a person. She was very jealous of Laine and how she was growing with Nick as a person. And tried to blame her not having any other friends on her. I was glad to see her go.

Over the book wasn’t bad but it was like a bag of potato chips good but not sustainable. I would have liked a better epilogue and even two. One the end the book and one for the future honestly to see what happened later in life.

Also another thing I wanted to mentions was her wanting to have a baby with a man she doesn’t know. They have only know each other for a couple of weeks. It was weird. Also I do think Laine’s relationship with her mom who was absent shaped her relationship with Kelly Anne as well as Nick.

But over all the book was a 3.5 for me.

CW previous death of a child (off page), neglectful childhood, grief, trauma, age play, daddy kink, toxic friendships

I am 100% conflicted writing this review. So looking at it from an overall perspective, this was an age gap, daddy kink romance, which I love and adore. However, there were 3 very specific and very distinct points in this book that whipped me right out of the story and made me more than uncomfortable.

Without those 3 moments, this could've easily been a 4/5 star, but they really hindered my enjoyment at those moments in time.

While all the parts are there theoretically, this book just isn't for me. It's not incredibly well written, there is a lot of infantilization, and the smut is a bit awkward. While I often look the other way with some morally grey situations in books (age gaps, virgins ect ect) this just too weird with all the kid stuff. I understand that trauma can influence kinks, and age play is a thing but I am personally very uncomfortable with the way it's portrayed in this.

While I love a Daddy kink, and I love other books with virginity stuff and age gaps, the fact that this girl meets this stranger on her 18th birthday and stays in a child's room, and that's where they do most of the spice...in an actual childs room...not even a room they made with childlike things for her, it's a real childs room...no thank you. I know by the end they recognize that she's an adult and they should be partners instead of him always treating her like a child but it was all a little too icky for me

It's a quick read so not much time lost but all in all not very good in my opinion. The audio book is alright.

Tropes & Kinks: Age Gap, Little Play, and Daddy Kink
Jade West has done it again, she has written another amazing smut book! I'm telling you Jade West knows how to write smut and I absolutely love her books! Though I didn't love this book as much as I loved Sugar Daddies I did really enjoy it.
There was a few things that I didn't love, the biggest being the Daddy kink but that's not really the books fault because I went into this book knowing that it was going to have a daddy kink and have age play which I knew I wasn't the biggest fan of but I decided to read it anyway because it was written by Jade West. This book just proved to me that daddy kinks just aren't my thing and that's okay!
Another thing is I didn't really connect with the characters as much as I did with her characters in Sugar Daddies, It just felt like we didn't really know them very well. I also didn't really connect with the relationship. I thought they were cute but I didn't absolutely love them.
The main character did act very young throughout the majority of the book even though she kept saying she was an adult and could take care of herself she didn't really act like it. It got better at the end and she did start to act more like an adult.
I also didn't like how they never had a conversation about everything that was going on and talked about things that I feel like are needed to be talked about in this type of relationship.
Another thing that bugged me was the fact that they never discuss the fact that there are other forms of birth control outside of the pill and condoms and they never sit down and look at all of their options. I know this may seem little for other people but for some reason it just really bugs me.
I know, I know there was a lot of things I disliked about this and you are probably wondering why I'm giving it such a good rating and that cause Jade West writing Is just so good and even though there was something I disliked in the book, her writing really pulled me in and kept me fully immersed in the writing.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and I'm glad I read it. Jade West has become one of my favorite smut writers and I plan to continue reading her books.
