Cawpile: 7.43 4*

I was pulled in by the premise of the story, and some of it definitely held up. However, there were some big plot issues, such as if Thane is ‘all over’ the media and social media carrying a man out of a gay club after a tragedy like that, how come none of his family contact him? How does a gay fireman not know that gay men can’t give blood when I as a straight female have known that fact and been angry over the injustice for decades now? Shouldn’t medical notes contain the information that a patient has previously been an addict? Isn’t there non opioid pain killers? … and that’s just the start.

The rest of this review is a copy of a note I wrote while reading the book. I’m still learning what I want to do with this idea so please excuse me while I get to grips with it. For those on the app please note there will be *spoilers* from this point on (the app doesn’t spoiler tag

I liked what was trying to be done here, but it just didn't hit right for me. The story was good, but the pacing felt a bit off. I did really like the characters and the found family aspect of the story. I think this is more a me thing. I am just not sure if the author's style is for me. I may try the next book in the series to test out that theory. I mostly enjoyed myself during this read, and it's definitely not bad, I'm just not so sure it's for me.

Did not finish. Got to 75%.

The book started out strong. There was a lot of hurt comfort and a lot of protection going on and it was sweet. There's lust at first sight that is then given a reasonable time frame to develop into love. The characters were sweet and distinct. It was a decent book. It has pronlems throughout with the author focusing on action and dialogue and not what the character physically feels. For example, there's a scene where a character gets a tattoo and there is no description of the sensation. He might as well be sipping tea.

I noped out after TRIGGER WARNING the suicide attempt. Because I don't do gratuitous suicide attempts for romance as a rule and this one was terribly written. He was IMMEDIATELY better after and determined not to do it again, immediately narrated his life story to a therapist he only just met after an entire sub-plot about his hating therapists then we launched into a sex scene and a plot twist that could be solved with a simple conversation. So hard no, I'm out.

Enjoyable read. I found Madden a little harder to like than Thane ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Good start to a series recommended to me a while ago.
This is very much a hurt/heal story with some insta-love vibes (that are totally not my thing).

I liked this, finished it in a day. The smut was sexy and good, but I'm not generally a fan of insta-love. They didn't build their love on anything aside from instant lust/attraction. I think it did build over time in the book but they professed their love to one another like right away which I don't like.
I'm on the fence on whether or not I'll read more from this series. I might.

New author to me alert...I really enjoyed this one. I loved both MC's. Thane sees Madden in the club and goes to talk to him. Just when they're getting to know each other the shooting starts. Thane fell for Madden hard and fast but Madden has all types of issues, stemming from the shooting and what he went through when he was younger so their relationship was not necessarily easy. They cared for each other but Madden had to work his issues out first. I cried in some parts. I'm not an angsty girl even though there were some heavy subjects in here it never felt too heavy for me to read. I loved their friends and can't wait for the next book in the series. I love when I discover a new author...
