The Future Is Here and Everything Must Be Destroyed by Colette Arrand

It's interesting to read poetry by a writer who came from the same general time and place as me, but whose life experience is so different from mine. Some of the specific cultural references that were weaved into deeper meditations on identity, fear, and belonging (Juggalos and Limp Bizkit, for instance) hit me right in the heart in ways I didn't expect. Every poem straddles the line between humor and overwhelming sadness, and feels like it could have been written by nobody else.

I will forever be a fan and cheerleader of Coletteā€™s work. Her presence in the writing just sits with you in these poems drinking coffee at the WaHo and talking about the weird heartbreak that is having a heart and a body.

Devour all the things about her work - more than anyone her voice needs to be known
