Pretty tedious and confusing to read, and full of fatphobia. The premise was interesting, just wish it followed through.

The plot is common enough for a mystery novel but features a unique and interesting twist to it whose potential is wasted. The book is entirely too long, mostly due to the overdrawn descriptions of the setting and a rather repetitive narration because of the mutliple POVs. Also, the narrative style, even when it gets to supposedly suspenseful parts, is just so bland, it's virtually impossible to get invested as a reader (I still wanted to know how it ended, though.). The characters are stereotypical, flat and appear to be very distant to both each other and the reader. On top of that, the plot leaves you mostly confused until the last 130 (or so) pages when things start to fall into place. Though the ending does give you answers, they are somewhat unsatisfying and the characters' motives are vague. It's not exactly a bad book, but it's not good either.

The book started out very fast paced and grabbed my attention straight away. All the plottwists and turns kept my interest very well, and I thought I would finish the story in a few days. Spoiler: it took me 4 times as long as expected.

However, the middle part was a drag to read. The pace slowed down, and there was a long part without any story progression.

That resolved in the last part of the book, where all the twists and turns returned in great quantities. Unfortunately, these were not to my liking. A lot of times, the main character had suddenly drawn some crucial conclusions, but the thought process behind these conclusions would hardly be explained. Suddenly he had an epiphany that would drive the story forward, but because I was not involved in the drawing of the conclusion and had less information than the MC, I could not follow the reasoning and had no other choice but to just accept the new reality.

Since nearly the full resolve of the story relied on these MC conclusions, it did not seem that the story actually had a natural close. The beginning and ending of the story did not seem to fit to each other, and therefore the story had to be pulled in extreme turns to sort of align them.

At one point the author got very fatphobic. Not one of the other guests' bodies received so much (negative) attention.

I enjoyed the concept of the story, and it was a pleasure to read through all the time and body jumps.

A lot of fat phobia aimed at one character, made those sections hard to read.
