Magnificent! The story, even if sometimes melodramatic, unfolds with great tension and detail. Most of the characters are complex and interesting, and there are a lot of really enjoyable moments of inner conflict and turmoil.

The final chapters had me at the edge of my seat, unable to stop reading. I feel like this ancient city is alive in my head, loud and colourful and deceptive.

A classic

This book, while very engaging, is still pretty absurd. The ridiculous amount of Christian symbolism, judgement, and spiritualism makes the story seem like a convenient vehicle for the author's religion. Furthermore, the author blatantly adjusts and exaggerates history to better fit his religious message.
