I thought this was a beautiful ending to the Foundation series, culminating in the final days of Hari Seldon matching up with the real-life final days of Asimov. The last few stories here I really enjoyed. It has some of the most emotion of the Foundation series. I really didn’t wanna finish this one.

I'm not sure how I feel about this book. On its own, I enjoyed it more than others in this series but it does seem to like up with foundation, or at least what I remember.
The empire seems much more run down than I remember it being in Foundation. I have a hard time imagining the Empire in this book being able to fund the exile outlined in the foundation, and it seems like Hari gets psychohistory working much too late in his life, not to mention that I could have sworn he got excited in the first book.
I like Hari's character a lot more in this book than I did in the last, he seems much more human than he did at any other point in the series, and I appreciate that. Though if he would just listen to his wife for once I think his life would have been a lot smoother.

The conclusion of the second prequel book to the Foundation series. Once again, I don't think this prequel needed to be two books. The characters aren't terribly interesting, there's a bunch of fluff that is added, but it's very stereotypical in my mind. Bad organization is trying to usurp good organization, there's a spy. I always struggle with prequels, because we already know the end. But it's annoying because it feels like Asimov just phoned it in.

Didn't enjoy this volume as much but glad to have read it and finished Asimov's Foundation series.
One thing that struck me (and saddened me) was his writing about some in his fictional world who denied science. Writing in 1993, this may have seemed far fetched. But, living at the end of 2016, it is the frightening reality we face. At times, I felt I was reading the news, not a work of science fiction.
