Really enjoyed this. Good characters. Layers in the mystery. Just enough humor. Really good.

Dana Stabenow's mysteries are well paced and easy to read. Her characters are well developed people who are believable because they aren't perfect

Loved this book loved Liam! There are an alarming amount of ways you can get a Trooper uniform dirty!

I had to read this series as well since I found out that Liam Campbell will appear in the Kate Shugak series. Fire and Ice is the first one about this Alaska state trooper with a complicated background and at first I found it confusing but then I got into it and now I will read them all since I found them very funny. Dana Stabenow has found some great charaters and the setting is as usual excellent.

I'm loving reading Dana's books. Se was totally unknown to me until recently. Crime novel set in Alaska with a secondary characters writ large.

The start of this book is so annoying as to make what follows less enjoyable than it could have been. It starts out like you've just walked into a party and know no one at all and everyone is less than welcoming. Of course the characters know one another, but I don't, and thus the writers makes me feel unwelcome. This is not what books should be like.

It does get better but so many of the characters in this book are horrible people. The community they live in is too strange a place to make this read an enjoyable experience.

3.5 stars. It took me the last few chapters to really warm up to this book and to it's characters.

This is really 3.5 stars, but I'm not quite sure whether to round up or down. I'll probably have to revisit the rating later when I've had more chance to think about the book.

Hmmm, I usually love Stabenow, but this was barely okay. Protagonists Liam and Wy engaged in an extramarital affair while Liam had a young child and much of the book dealt with the fact that Liam settled for his wife, along with Liam and Wy's guilt over the affair. At the same time, the book tries to convey this grand, overpowering love to justify their actions. However, I never got more than a sense of them being two people with sexual chemistry and some trivial stuff in common. Additionally, Wy doesn't appear very ethical in business dealings and doesn't often bother trusting Liam with the truth. These really aren't two people I am excited to learn more about -- they remind of unlikeable versions of Jim and Kate from Stabenow's Kate Shugak series, which I love. Overall, I was disappointed.

Fire and Ice is the first book in Dana Stabenow's Liam Campbell series. Really love this one. Heck, I just love her writing. The Kate Shugak books are really a treat as well. The description of the herring season, all of 20 minuets of it was really hair raising. Loved the characters and the story. Looking forward to the next one. I wish these were in audio like most of Kate's books are but I'll take what I can get.
