Could use a bit of editing. Drags in sections. Short chapters make for a choppy read.

I love love love this book. I didn't know what to expect by I am highly pleased. This is going on my favorites list for books I've read as a adult. This book had depth that I haven’t experienced in a while. I love the conversations and descriptions of disability and mental health as well.

Šī grāmata man ilgi paliks atmiņā

I liked the short chapters but it was so long. Not my fav and the ending was super anti-climatic

A beautifully told story of children forced to grow up during the Second World War: the blind, Parisian Marie-Laure, daughter of a locksmith who builds miniature model cities; the smart, poor Werner, able to work out complex maths and fix any radio, taken to be trained up to fight for the fuhrer.

This is a really wonderful story. The horror of the war is mixed with beautiful myths and snatches from children's stories. The whole thing brims with treasures: a bird watching boy, an attic playing out old piano recordings, underground caves filled with sea snails, a tall house belonging to a great uncle with piles of books, a child's drawings of the rooftops of Paris... it goes on.

The only thing that stopped me giving it 5 stars was that, spoiler alert, there was a rape scene I didn't think was necessary, was sort of skimmed over, and that the writer just shouldn't have written. I also thought maybe we didn't need to know everything that happened to the characters years later?

Overall a very good book that I will miss reading.
