This book is something special. To call it just another YA romance would be doing it a great disservice. This book delves into connection and love in a way that I haven’t seen very much yet. Even though this story is ultimately about love, it’s not just flirty looks and clever lines. There’s yearning and the complications of life. There’s this overarching feeling of mystery and melancholy as the story unfolds, interspersed with such beauty and joy.

Overall: a wonderful read for fans of New Adult books. Greatly recommend.

This is a hard one to rate because there were a lot of things that I liked, and I'm SO here for the casual f/f romance, but a lot of other parts just fell flat for me.

Everything Leads to You begins with teenage film fan Emi. While in her job for production design, she finds a mysterious letter from a dead Hollywood star. The letter ends up leading Emi and her best friend to Ava, a girl unlike any Emi has met. She has a rough past but Emi can't help but get closer to her when they end up working on the same movie together.

The best things aren't perfectly constructed. They aren't illusions. they aren't larger than life. They are life.

The first part (up to maybe page 100) of this book was so good. It mostly follows Emi and her best friend in this mystery of finding someone while Emi tries to get over her ex (who keeps taking her back and dumping her). The friendship between Emi and Charlotte was just so pure and I loved it so much. But once they solve the mystery and Ava enters the scene, the story just loses some for me. Plus it felt like the book just dropped in pace so much, and went way too slow.

As much as I love the f/f rep, I never saw the chemistry between them, and this book had barely any romance anyway. Only at the very, very end do they even kiss and they never even really flirted beforehand. Most of their conversations were just so dramatic instead of being normal. There weren't even any adorable moments between them? It was all just either working on making the movie sets or dealing with Ava's problems, or how Emi was still trying to get over her ex. While I do still enjoy the friendship vibes with all of them as a group, it just bugged me to finally read another YA f/f romance and then have it sit in the backseat for drama. Yes, lgbt+ teen homelessness is a thing that should be talked about but I really just wanted a cute and fluffy lesbian romance.

Otherwise I still liked the movie aspect and the L.A. vibes so for that and the friendships, I didn't hate it. I'm just disappointed.
