Really good. I see how the movie took inspiration and liberties with the original plot. Both were good in their own ways.
I wish they had kept the scientist a woman. I wish they had kept the made up language burst, I’m glad they didn’t keep the original ending.

This book is the source of the movie Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. The end of the book is more chocking

Eh.
Again this will have to go with the many books I read where I think the movie improved on the story.
I think the overall plot/purpose/idea was great. I liked the two main characters. I just felt it was too short and nothing was ever really developed. Who were all those other people? You honestly didn't care but they took up a lot of the book. That's what bugged me.

This was a fun, fast-paced, and dark sci-fi war story. I enjoyed the writing style and the plot twists. Sakurazawa did a great job depicting the bloody, merciless nature of war and the battlefield (the opening scene is amazing!) and balanced the repetitive nature of living the same day over again with the main character's attempts to change things and survive. The ending surprised me! Overall, I'd definitely recommend this. Despite the main character's occasionally (mostly at the beginning) sexist and sexualizing comments about women, it's otherwise a very solid read. 4 stars.

This is a fantastic story. I liked the movie but always go back to source material especially to fill out the plot holes. The difference, as expected, is the lead is a teen Japanese soldier, replaced in the movie by the middle aged annoying Tom Cruise. Emily Blunt is Rita Vrabntski, badass female super soldier. It moves quickly, the longest span I believe is 2 days then hitting the reset. But really what put it into perspective was the author's note at the end, that video games means you can play out the battle over and over until you get it just right, so it was an interesting premise for a sci-fi story pulled straight out a Halo atmosphere and the author totally nailed the setting, descriptions without getting bogged down by military maneuvers and still manages to have this sweet emotional story between the leads that feels real and unforced even though again, their story is so short.
I only recently discovered that Edge of Tomorrow was based on a novel, and once I saw it was based on a Japanese novel I had to read it. I like how the novel and movie diverged from each other letting me enjoy the story twice. Kind of like Fight Club. And I can't say that I recommend one version over the other and instead say I really enjoyed both mediums in their own right.
I liked the writing style. Simple, yet it packed a punch. I particularly liked the attention to detail - for example how eating the exact same food every day for months was a kind of torture. The ending felt a bit abrupt, but it finished solidly in the last few pages.
