Better than the movie

Ridiculously rushed. "Edge of Tomorrow" is a lot better.

The story is overall well done and does the time loop structure in an easy to follow format that any reader can get into. It established what it needed to do while not going to in-depth into every little detail and that is something I can always appreciate.

Spoilers:

My main problem is the ending, it pulls a sad ending out of nowhere and feels much more like the author wanted an emotional gut punch but, lacked the set up to make me even believe that it was necessary. It took an unnecessary twist and made the entire story depressing for no good reason rather than leaning into the very obvious themes of finding others in impossible situations and what it means to truly know someone. Throwing all that away just to have a sad ending is something I have grown to have disdain for. It’s a trend I wish authors would give up and allow there characters to have happy endings if that is where the plot is heading.

I found this on a list of the best short manga series and didn't realize it was the basis of Edge of Tomorrow until I was a chapter in, which added a fun deja vu element to my read.

Shameful of me to say, I ALSO picked this up when I heard it was being adapted into a movie. I have seen it many times before, but always assumed that it was Manga (which I am not a particular fan of)

While the story certainly entertained me (finished it in a single day) , it didn't fully satisfy my my 'SciFi gland'

Starship Troopers meets Groundhog Day.

I'm not usually a fan of military sci-fi, and if this was just mechs vs aliens I would have hated it. But mix in time loops, breezy writing, and a short page count and suddenly it's an enjoyable exception.
