Fascinating to read knowing how the movie goes. There are a few strange little artifacts that made it all the way through to the cinematic version, for example the line "is there something on my face?" and the iso pushups, the idea of the dreams. Despite some things in the novel being far more detailed and grounded, other things felt like a rough draft compared to how the movie handles them, namely the relationship between the two main characters. In the movie, their working together forms the majority of the plot while they only work together for two or three loops in the book.
There are some inconsistencies and dropped threads in the novel that bugged me a bit too, namely they make such a huge deal of the fact that Rita is so good her suit doesn't even HAVE an autobalancer, she had it removed, and yet when she is injured at the end of the book her suit seems to compensate for the injury in the fashion an autobalancer was previously described to have done. They mention the Dreamers, and nothing comes of that other than just a throwaway line that there are random people who have dreams where they can accurately predict events (presumably these are civilians who somehow killed a Server, but they don't seem to be experiencing time loops with repeated death so it's unclear how that works).

I picked the book just because I saw the movie. Now I am glad I saw the movie before I read this, otherwise I would have been so disappointed. If you have not seen “Live, Die, Repeat”read this after you see the movie.

In a rare turn of events, I liked the movie a whole lot better than the book…
This is exactly what I want out of short fiction.
A phenomenal future-war premise with a time-manipulation twist makes for a great, quick action-packed story. Well done by all measures.

I loved it so much that I'm probably going to do something I would never thought possible...watching the movie with Tom Cruise.
Wonderful story with some really interesting characters.
