I have been desperately searching for a sapphic ex boyfriend's mum romance as soon as I developed an affinity for taboo age gap romances and this gem just fell into my lap 😭

So this was spicier than I expected, I have to admit. I have zero complaints on that front.

Our MC Nyx starts out as a very shame filled woman who is trying to explore her interest in the BDSM scene. Throughout the course of the book, we see her grappling with and shedding that shame.

Axelle, our other MC is full of angst around her relationship with her son and the loss of her previous partner.

Both work through these issues together through their own independent storylines.

They make each other feel safe almost immediately, and that's a huge benefit to building this D/s relationship together, however forbidden it might be. This unfortunately meant we missed out a bit on being able to watch that process unfold. We got Ax dropping her guard and showing some vulnerability,  but Nyx remained, for the most part, trusting the whole way through.

The suspenseful aspect of the book was handled well, it kept Ax in a good light as we don't delve too deep into her crimes and what she's involved in. This saved having to have a proper redemption arc for her to get our favour back.

This was a pretty solid romance, I just wish we'd been able to see the emotional connection between the two a little more explicitly shown.

This would be perfect for anyone looking for something kinky and sapphic, and they enjoy an age gap with a forbidden aspect. Just enough suspense to keep you on your toes, and enough angst to fill a swimming pool.

I think the highest praise I can give this book & this author is that it’s literally a book completely built on miscommunication start to finish, one of my all time least favorite tropes/plots, and yet I still loved it & couldn’t stop reading.

So enjoyed the dynamic between Ax and Nyx, and all of the twists and turns of their relationship. The spice starts early & does not let you down as you keep reading!! special note: this has one of my fav things, there is an established safe word that is both used & respected!! i love how it emphasizes the consent in the rest of the book (which is explicitly checked, i think at some point every scene), but like the inclusion of consent withdrawal in action is just *chef’s kiss*

sapphic dark romance, age gap, ex-boyfriend’s masc lesbian mom, spicy club, mafia, D/s relationship, edge play
