This series has had its ups and downs but this book had an interesting concept and I felt it was written better than others in the series.

Had a good start and weak last half-1/3 of book, imo. I like Joe though. The writing wasn’t my cup of tea.

Lately I've read several books that were the most recent in their respective series to get to my local library, and I've noticed a trend: they've each gotten darker, and depending on the genre, less realistic/less based on the rules and conventions of their settings established earlier in the series. The authors seem to get tired of their own characters, and start writing more superficial stereotypes.

In this case, the series has steadily been devolving into unlikely plots and unlikeable characters, being resolved by Nate as deus ex machina, and the endings have more gore, more violence. Not my thing. Your mileage may vary.

This was a "can't put down" book!!! The only reason I took so long to read it was that I was already in the middle of another (dead tree) book when I started. I can't talk about the ending without giving it away; but believe me, things are getting ready to get real western, real fast! You have to read these in order, but it is so worth the time invested!

I do enjoy a Joe Pickett and this one was poking fun at the social media world. There’s a second story line with Nate that I’m assuming will get resolved in the next book. Sheridan is a bit more involved in this book as well which makes me happy. I keep waiting for some sort of spin-off with her as the focus.
